The defender joined Borussia Dortmund from another Bundesliga club SC Freiburg on 2 May 2022. He joined the club on a five-year deal and the transfer fee was reported to be €25 million.
Schlotterbeck began his youth career at Regionalliga club VfR Aalen in 2015. Likewise, he played for 2. Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC before joining SC Freiburg in 2017. While at SC Freiburg, he spent a the 2020-21 season on loan at Union Berlin.
Internationally, he has represented Germany from U18 to U21 levels. On 27 March 2022, he made his senior team debut in a friendly match against Israel. He is set to represent the team in the upcoming World Cup 2022.
