Before playing in the major league, Cal had a minor league stint with three different clubs. He first played for the Low-A Everett AquaSox where he batted .288 with 8 home runs and 29 RBIs in 38 games.
After that, Cal played with the High-A Modesto Nuts in 2019. He was then promoted to Double-A Arkansas Travelers. Cal slashed .251/.323/.497 with 29 home runs and 82 RBIs from 121 games between the two teams.
