In a personal essay published on Today, Jill penned,
I am telling this story now because I couldn’t go through months of operations, and start to recover both physically and mentally, without shouting from the rooftops telling everyone to check with their doctors to see if genetic testing is appropriate.
Initially, Jill learned of her diagnosis of breast cancer on 26 June 2023. It was after she went through some tests which revealed that she had a BRCA gene mutation.
Jill’s cancer came from her family’s brief history of the disease. Recently, after her mother tested negative for BRCA gene mutations, doctors recommended she perform the test as these mutations can be carried out paternally.
As soon as the results came, Jill knew that she had a mutation to her BRCA2 gene which she inherited from her father. Her father also tested positive for the mutation.
Now, Jill will undergo a double mastectomy this week. After that, she will be put through a more in-depth treatment plan to cure her disease as early as possible.

Initially, Jill and Erik commenced their romance in 2017. After dating for two years, they decided to get engaged in 2019. However, the pair broke off their engagement in 2020 citing the challenges of being in a long-distance relationship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eventually, Jill and Erik got re-engaged in November 2021. Less than a year later, they held hands to walk down the aisle together.
The major highlight of Jill and her fiance’s wedding was that they asked guests to donate to help with the tuition for an 18-year-old named Samantha. Jill knew the girl through her work on the advisory board of the Garden of Dreams Foundation.
As of now Jill and Erik don’t have any children of their own.
