Born Scott Homer Drew on 23 October 1970, he is a graduate of Butler University. Though he never played college basketball at the varsity level, he worked for two years as a student assistant for the men’s basketball team.
Afterward, he took an assistant coaching position with the Valparaiso University Crusaders men’s team under his father Homer Drew. He became the team’s head coach for one year following his father’s retirement.
