Matthew Smith is a new Jeopardy champion who won his debut episode on 6 May 2024. He competed against returning champion Weckiai Rannila, and Carrie Klaus, a French professor from Greencastle, Indiana.
Weckiai is an engineer from Albuquerque, New Mexico who made her Jeopardy debut on the 1 May episode. She was already a three-day champion with total winnings of $35,200.

On the first round of the Monday episode, Weckiai got off to the best start and she was still leading after the Double Jeopardy! round with a score of $19,600. Meanwhile, Matthew was second with a score of $13,200.
In the Final round, he was the only player to give the correct answer and hence became the new Jeopardy! Champion! He will return to the podium on Tuesday with a total score of $26,400.
There, he will face two contestants; Daniel King, a Brown University graduate from Parsippany, New Jersey, and Allison Gross, a data scientist from Cleveland, Ohio.
