Meghan McCarthy is the daughter of an American Republican politician Kevin McCarthy. Her father is recently elected as the 55th speaker of the United States House of Representatives on 7 January 2023.
Kevin was elected as a speaker on the 15th ballot, on a margin of 216-211. It is the first time that the election had taken more than nine ballots since 1859. He defeated Democratic nominee Marisa Woodand and won the reelection in 2022 with 67.2% of the vote.
The speaker was born to Roberta Darlene and Owen McCarthy on 26 January 1965, in Bakersfield, California. He began his career by serving on the staff of Congressman Bill Thomas from 1987 to 2002.
