Neal Begovich is an American basketball player who now plays for the men’s basketball team at Duke University.

Before joining Duke, Neal played at Stanford University for four seasons. At Stanford, he played in 15 games, including two starts, and averaged 1.1 points on .429 shooting from the field and 11 total rebounds.

Moreover, he became a two-time member of the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll in 2021 and 2022. He was named to the NABC Honors Court in 2022 and received the Stanford Athletic Board Donald Kennedy Award in 2023.

While at high school, Begovich was included in the San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro selection, a Bay Area News Group All-Area pick, and a San Francisco Examiner All-City selection as a senior. He was also named All-West Catholic Athletic League honors and the recipient of the Hank Luisetti Scholar-Athlete Trophy.

Begovich is the son of American parents Daniel Begovich and Mariann Byerwalter. His parents married in 1987.

Daniel was also a basketball player who played collegiately for the Golden Bears at the UC Berkeley. There, he was named Most Valuable Player in 1977 and was awarded the Harold Belasco Gold Award in 1979. Later, he ran his family business, Danco Real Estate.

Neal grew up with two older brothers named Daniel Begovich and Joseph Begovich, in San Francisco, California. Both his brothers played college basketball at Stanford University. Later, Daniel served as a graduate assistant for the Duke men’s basketball program.

The player lost his father when he was just eight years old. His dad Daniel died at the age of 52 on 7 January 2010.
