Trevor Lawrence Draft Info & Football Career

William Trevor Lawrence (known as Trevor Lawrence) is a professional American football quarterback. Lawrence gained fame in the past four years for his performance with the Clemson Tigers football program.

Lawrence made headlines earlier this year after graduating from Clemson and entering the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the number one draft pick overall, selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though Lawrence is one of the most promising young talents in the NFL, his move to Jacksonville means that he’ll have to earn his stripes by elevating one of the league’s worst teams.

Even so, pundits and fans have been closely following Lawrence’s progress with the Jaguars throughout the summer as the NFL season start approaches. So far, reports state that Lawrence is in starting shape.

As the August 15 preseason match against the Cincinnati Browns approaches, sportsbooks with mobile options, like the Unibet app, will see more action from punters. The off-season is a popular time for NFL fans to place futures bets on which teams will become division and conference champions. With Lawrence on the roster, will the Jaguars be able to dominate the AFC South?

Early Career With Clemson Tigers

Lawrence was born in Knoxville, Tennessee On October 6, 1999. In 2016, Lawrence committed to Clemson University to play for the Tigers football program. Clemson is one of the most prestigious universities in the NCAAF (which oversees college football). Despite being a five-star recruit, Lawrence started his freshman season behind Kelly Bryant, senior quarterback.

After only four games as a backup quarterback, Lawrence was promoted to starting quarterback. He then led the Tigers to an ACC Championship title and a win in the 2018 Cotton Bowl Classic, earning himself the ACC Rookie of the Year award at the season’s end.

Lawrence’s collegiate career steadily improved from his freshman year. In 2019 and 2020, the quarterback nabbed First-team All-ACC placements, as well as an ACC Football Player of the Year award in 2020. Heading into the 2021 draft, he was one of the most highly-rated players, despite not earning the Heisman Trophy award (which went to wide receiver DeVonta Smith).

2021 NFL Draft

As mentioned above, Lawrence was drafted first overall in the 2021 Draft, drawing comparisons to Peyton Manning, a respected quarterback from the early 2000s. Lawrence was ‘tanked’, a term used in the NFL to describe top-tier talents going to teams with poor records. Indeed, the young quarterback was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, one of the lowest-performing teams in the league.

To encourage competitiveness, the NFL awards teams with poor records with higher draft picks. This is designed to offset the financial and infrastructural advantages that certain teams have; the Jaguars are a new franchise, which means they have less access to most resources compared to longstanding franchises.

Based on training camp performances, it seems that Lawrence may be primed to start with the Jaguars this year. Similar to his first year with Clemson, it’s possible Lawrence will start behind a veteran player. He’s coming off an injury to his shoulder from February of this year.

Prior to being drafted by the Jaguars, Lawrence had a net worth of over $1 million.
