The 6-foot-2-inch made his first ATP main draw and Grand Slam debut in 2020. Moreover, he reached back-to-back ATP Tour finals at Los Cabos and Atlanta at age 19 in 2021, being the youngest American to reach multiple finals since Roddick in 2001-02.
Nakashima enrolled at the University of Virginia to play collegiate tennis but chose to forgo his remaining years after his first season. He reached the semifinals in singles at the USTA Boys 18s National Championships but finished winning the third-place match.
As a junior, he was ranked No. 3 in the world. Likewise, he won two titles on the ITF junior circuit and also won the ITF Junior Masters in 2018.
