Armstrong comes from a family with a rich soccer history. His father, Desmond Armstrong, represented the United States national team from 1987 to 1994.
Playing as a defender/right back, Desmond made 81 international appearances before his retirement. He also played in the Major Indoor Soccer League, the American Professional Soccer League, and USISL.
Desmond is now 61 years old. He was a manager of the Montreat College soccer team from 1999 to 2006. Currently, he serves as a technical director of FC Columbus in the National Premier Soccer League.
Moreover, Armstrong’s elder brother, Ezra Armstrong, is also a soccer player. Formerly played for St. Louis City 2, the 27-year-old now plays for Loudoun United Football Club as a defender in the USL Championship.

Although born in North Carolina, Armstrong later moved to Nashville, Tennessee. He attended The STEM Preparatory Academy, where he played for the varsity boys’ team.
