Gary Hollis is known as a contestant in the 2021 Professors Tournament of Jeoparrdy. There, he won in the quarter-final, walking away with $20,000, but did not advance in the semi-final. 

A chemistry professor from Roanoke, Virginia, he is competing on the show again for the 2023 Champions Wildcard Hearts tournament. He returned on the show on the 8 December 2023 episdoe. After competing in the quarterfinal and then at semifinals, he has reached the final of the tournament.

Hollis will face two previous seasons eopardy champions; Yungsheng Wang, a public defender from Los Angeles, California, and Tyler Vandenberg, a Marine Officer, currently serving in Stuttgart, Germany.

Yungsheng was a three-time winneron the 38th season of Jeopardy back in 2022. Similarly, he was an alternate for the 2022 Tournament of Champions. On the other hand, Tyler was a two-day winner of the 37th season of the longest-running quiz show in 2021. 

On 18 December 2023 episode, he will compete in the 2023 Champions Wildcard Hearts final game 2.

Hollis is a chemistry professor who has been teaching at Roanoke College for 28 years. He teaches organic chemistry 1 and 2, corresponding labs and a senior capstone course basic education known as Inquiry.
