Now 35 years old, Snelling was raised by her parents in Roseburg, Oregon. She is of American nationality and white ethnicity.

Snelling completed her Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of Oregon in 2012. She graduated with departmental honors in Comparative Literature and minored in German. She also spent her post-graduate year abroad in Recklinghausen, Germany.

Furthermore, Snelling obtained a Master of Science in Information Science/Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016.
