The flanker has been playing professional rugby union for the Saints since 2013. Before making his first-team debut in the 2016–17 season, he played for teams such as Old Albanians, Coventry, Birmingham Moseley, and Rotherham Titans. on dual registration,
Ludlam began his youth career at Ipswich Rugby Club and then joined Colchester RFC. Moreover, he also played for the Saints’ under-18 team before moving to its Senior Academy.
