Melinda Gates and Bill Gates are ending their marriage after 27 years of the marital relationship. The duo announced in a statement through their Twitter accounts on 3rd May 2021.


Melinda Gates and Bill Gates are also running the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, starting in 2000.

The pair stated that they would continue to work together at the foundation but no longer be as a couple in the coming days.

The 56-year-old and Bill Gates married in the year 1994 during a ceremony held in Hawaii. The duo first met in the 1980s when she joined his Microsoft firm.

Bill is the fourth wealthiest person in the world with a net worth of $129.9 billion, according to Forbes.

The pair has three children: two daughters Phoebe Adele Gates and Jennifer Katharine Gates and a son named Rory John Gates.


The family resided in Xanadu 2.0, a lavish earth-sheltered mansion overlooking Lake Washington in Medina, Washington.

However, they are no longer husband and wife, as they announced their separation on 3rd May 2021.

According to their divorce petition, they asked the court to divide their communal property, business interests, and liabilities as set forth in their separation contract.

Born as Melinda Ann French on August 15, 1964, she is the daughter of Raymond Joseph French Jr. and Elaine Agnes Amerland.

Her father was an aerospace engineer who worked on the Apollo space program. She grew up with an elder sister named Susan Marie French and two brothers Raymond and Steven French in Dallas, Texas.


Melinda attended St. Monica Catholic School and then went to all-girls Ursuline Academy. Moreover, she earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics from Duke University in 1986 and an MBA degree from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business in 1987.
