Janet was a faculty member at the London School of Economics from 1978 to 1980. She serves as the professor emeritus at the Haas School of Business and the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been a faculty member since 1980 and became the Eugene E. and Catherine M. Trefethen Professor of Business Administration and Professor of Economics.
In June 1978, Janet married George Akerlof, an economist who is a university professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. Robert’s father George was awarded the 2001 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, jointly with Michael Spence and Joseph Stiglitz, “for their analyses of markets with asymmetric information.”
