Ron is the identical twin of the previous 13-day Jeopardy! champion, Ray Lalonde. His brother works as a scenic artist in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees in the paint department.
Although from Canada, Lalonde now lives with his family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. He is of Canadian nationality and white ethnicity.
Regarding his education, Lalonde did his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physics and Biophysics from the University of Waterloo in 1987. He then obtained a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto in 1993.
