He replaced Rayor, who was their original drummer. Travis fit in perfectly with the scene kid aesthetic of Blink-182. The band split up in 2005 due to disagreements, but he’s still good friends with the members.
Hoppus recently attended his wedding in Italy, and Barker said, “Mark is my brother, and I love and support him.”
Shortly after the band broke up, he starred in MTV’s reality show Meet the Barkers. This hit series followed the life of Travis and his ex-wife, a Miss USA titleholder, Shanna Moakler.
Travis Barkers’ Drug Addiction
Around the time Blink-182 split, his life fell apart on the inside. He dealt with an opioid addiction that was so severe it caused bone damage. It could have even led Travis Barker to a drug overdose that could be fatal.
Barker said: “I was so addicted to Oxycodone, and I had a security that would actually sleep during the day and then stay up at night to make sure I was breathing.”
His marriage at that time also turned toxic as he felt their reality show negatively affected their relationship dynamic. Everything went downhill, and a major traumatic event took him to rock bottom.
In 2008 he was one of two survivors in a plane crash that changed his life forever. He was headed to Los Angeles when the tires blew off the private Learjet he was on.
He lost three of his closest friends in the crash. His fellow band member, ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein, was also on the plane and managed to be the only other survivor. A year later, Adam died of a fatal drug overdose from treating his PTSD.
How Travis Barker Overcame Addiction
Although Travis Barker was smoking weed, he wasn’t addicted to it. Cannabis dependency is extremely rare and mainly occurs among people who began using it very young.
On his toxic lifestyle, he said, “My breakfast was four blunts, four Vicodin, one Valium, one Oxycodone ’cause that was the only way I could leave the house.”
The thing that was genuinely hurting his health was painkillers. The same addiction that took the life of his friend and band member DJ AM.
Travis Barkers’ drug addiction was serious, but what made him start taking opioids? The superstar drummer always feared flying, and with all the Blink-182 tours, he used painkillers to calm down.
The plane crash, which he refers to as his own “rehab,” stirred a change within him. He had to undergo surgeries after the impact of all the third-degree burns. His opioid tolerance was so high that he didn’t get fully sedated during surgery.
His injuries were intense, and he lost motion in his legs. Barker promised himself if he ever walked again, he would become a vegan, exercise daily, and quit all hard drugs.
Since then, he has been completely clean and stuck to his promise. He’s changed his diet and exercise habits as well.
Does Travis Barker still smoke weed? No, but he discovered the pros of CBD topicals and still uses them to relieve pain.
Travis now uses healthier ways to get ‘high,’ including boxing, recording music and exercising. He also hits the drums for at least 5 hours daily to keep his skills in peak shape.
Here are some other techniques he uses to stay sober, healthy, and happy:
- Breathwork and meditation
- Running
- Eating all vegan, healthy meals
- Drinks a lot of vegetable juices
- Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
What’s Travis Barker up to Now?
He’s come a long way from “All The Small Things,” and Barker is now making big moves in various sectors.
Rolling Stone Magazine titled him one of the greatest drummers of all time. As you can imagine, he’s made a killing from the instrument.
After the demise of Blink-182, Barker worked with many other talented artists, including Lil Wayne, Halsey, and Machine Gun Kelly.
Outside of drumming, he also has a clothing line called Famous Stars & Straps that caters to the fresh punk aesthetic.
Barker also has his record label called LaSalle Records, and some artists who recorded under his studio include:
- TRV$DJAM
- Transplants
- The Kinison
- The Nervous Return
He also recently released a CBD line called Barker Wellness, stocking cannabidiol tinctures and infusions made to boost health. One thing that helped Travis Barkers’ sobriety was using CBD to treat pain and help him relax, a healthier option than opioids.
His current net worth is around $50 million, and with all his hustles, it may soon increase.
Is Travis Barker Dating Anyone?
Aside from his business, he’s happily married to Kourtney Kardashian, and fans call them #Kravis. They’re so in love that they had three wedding celebrations and are often spotted holding hands and showing major PDA.
The crazy part is Barker didn’t fly for 13 years because of the traumatic crash until he met her. He shared the snap of them kissing outside the plane and captioned, “With you, anything is possible.” Seeing how far he has come is remarkable; fans can’t wait to see what’s next.
