Before turning professional, he played collegiatevely Rutgers University and the University of Oklahoma. While at Rutgers, he was the 2020 Big Ten Player of the Year and a third-team All-American.

Moreover, he transferred to Oklahoma for a fifth year of college golf.  There, he won the East Lake Cup and Puerto Rico Classic, and was runner-up at the Big 12 Championship and finished in fifth place at the NCAA Championship.

In 2022, he won both the Haskins Award and Jack Nicklaus Award as the top player in college golf. Additionally, he was honored with consensus first-team All-American, the Big 12 Golfer of the Year, and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Chris reached the final of the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2020. One of the top individual amateurs in the country, he was named the MGA & NJSGA Amateur Player of the Year in 2019. Likewise, he also won the the 2019 Met Amateur Championship.
