The 6-foot-3-inch was selected 10th overall by the Oilers in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He became the youngest Oiler defenceman in history to record a goal when he scored in a 4–1 win over the Washington Capitals on October 25, 2018.
Bouchard played in the Ontario Hockey League before NHL. The London Knights drafted him in the first round, 17th overall, in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. In his first season, he helped the Knights to win the OHL Championship and 2016 Memorial Cup.
Moreover, he has played with the American Hockey League team Bakersfield Condors and Södertälje SK in the in HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-highest level of pro hockey in Sweden. He began his career with the Oakville Blades in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
