Isabel is the fifth Latina woman to ever have served in the Cabinet of the United States. She was announced as President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for administrator of the Small Business Administration on 7 January 2021.

Previously, Isabel served as the director of California’s Office of the Small Business Advocate from April 2019 to March 2021. Moreover, she also worked as a Co-Founder of GovContractPros, LLC from June 2018 to March 2021.

Before that, Isabel was the Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Administrator at Us Small Business Administration from April 2014 to January 2017. She was also a Director of Strategic Initiatives and Advisor to Founding Chair at ProAmerica Bank from 2009 to 2014.

In her initial days, Isabel worked as a Studio Manager and Managing Partner at Miauhaus Studios from 1998 to 2010. In the meantime, she also served as a Deputy Appointments Secretary for California Governor Gray Davis from 2002 to 2003.

Isabella Casillas Guzman was born in 1970 in Burbank, California, United States. She is now 53 years of age and she celebrates her birthday in the month of July every year.

Isabel was born to parents of mixed ethnic backgrounds. She hails from four generations of Texans who fled the Mexican Revolution from the states of Aguascalientes and Jalisco.

Based on her family history, her father was a seventh-generation Tejano and her mother was born in Mexico. In addition, her father is a quarter Chinese and her mother is a quarter German.

Back in the 1960s, Isabel’s father moved from Texas to Los Angeles. Her parents even owned a small business. In fact, her father opened a veterinary clinic where Isabel would staff the front desk.

Talking about her education, Isabel earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. She did a BS in Economics with a Concentration in Marketing.

With American nationality, Isabel has mixed ethnicity.

Before starting her administrative career, Isabel opened her first business, a farming shop in Los Angeles in her mid-20s. After that, she started a print studio rental firm.

Isabel learned entrepreneurship from her father who opened several veterinary clinics in California. Although he practiced medicine, her father also had to do the bookkeeping, hiring, and performing other tasks.
