The 6-foot-9-inch began playing basketball at Federal Way High School in Federal Way, Washington. He averaged 23.3 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks per game in his senior season.
McDaniels played college basketball at the University of Washington. There, he played for only one season and was declared for the 2020 NBA draft next season.
The Los Angeles Lakers selected him in the first round with the 28th overall selection in the 2020 NBA draft. Afterward, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder along with Danny Green for Dennis Schröder.
Jaden was acquired by the Minnesota Timberwolves in November 2020. He plays as a power forward for the team, wearing jersey number #3.
