Jalen Hill was an American basketball player who played at UCLA for three seasons. He left UCLA basketball back in 2021 after battling anxiety and depression.
Recently on 20 September 2022, Jalen’s family confirmed via Instagram post that the young player had died aged 22. Jalen had died after going missing in Costa Rica.
His family wrote,
We know Jalen has played a part in the lives of so many people. We also acknowledge the role that so many of you have played in his. As we try to navigate this devastating time in our lives, we ask that you please give us time to grieve. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
UCLA and its basketball team head coach Mick Cronin were devastated by the incident as they passed their condolences to the deceased player’s family. The School said,
Our program is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Jalen Hill. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Likewise, Mick added,
Jalen was a warm-hearted young man with a great smile who has left us far too soon.

The deceased player was fighting depression and anxiety when he was previously detained in China on suspicions that he stole from a Louis Vuitton store.

The player was born Jalen Demetrius Hill on 17 December 1999 in Tampa, Florida, the United States. He was 22 years of age at the time of his death. With American nationality, Jalen had African-American ethnicity.
Jalen was among the two kids of his parents, George Hill and Tanisa Hill. His father, George was a former basketball player. George played basketball at Kansas State University. Jalen grew up alongside his sister named Tatianna Hill.
The player attended Centennial High School in Corona, California. Later on, he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to study history.
Jalen stood tall at a height of 6 feet and 10 inches (2.8 meters).

At Centennial High School, Jalen led his team to a 29-4 record in his 2013-14 freshman season. He averaged team highs in both scorings and rebounding as a senior in the 2016-17 season.
After that, Jalen joined UCLA to play basketball for the UCLA Bruins. In his three seasons there, he averaged 6.5 points and 6.4 rebounds while starting 40 of 77 career games.
