Currently, she works as a freelance reporter and fill-in anchor for Newsday TV. Based in Long Island, New York, she joined the station in September 2023.
Prior to that, she spent 23 years at News 12, where she served as a staff reporter and correspondent. There, she was one of the New York news’ best-known reporters on veterans and Gold Star families.
Virginia has won 17 Emmys (out of more than 125 nominations) and five Edward R. Murrow Awards, for writing. Moreover, she is the recipient of 11 Associated Press Awards, nine New York Press Club Awards, two Gold World New York Festival Awards, and one Deadline Club Award.
Earlier, she worked as a generalist at News 12, covering a wide range of breaking news on Long Island. Later, she began covering veterans affairs after News 12 began the long-running Memorial Day series, “Last Letters Home.”
Huie began her career as a reporter for a Des Moines, Iowa, station and got her first on-air job at Seattle’s KSTW/11. She spent five years as a freelance contributor before joining News 12 full-time in May 2005.
