Mark Geist is a motivational speaker, author, and a former member of the United States Marine Corps. He is popular as a co-author of the bestselling book, 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi.
Mark inspired the 2013 war movie, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldier of Benghazi which portrayed his heroic story amidst the tragic events in Benghazi, Libya on 11 September 2012.
Popular as Mark “Oz” Geist, he was a member of the Annex Security Team that fought the Battle of Benghazi, Libya from September 11 to September 12, 2012. He was on the roof of a clandestine CIA facility in Libya battling to protect the facility from members of the Islamic Militant group, Ansar al-Sharia.

More than 40 militants attacked the Annex with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, AK-47 assault rifles, and 81-millimeter mortars. One of them even knocked the left-handed Mark off his feet and ripped his left arm apart.
However, Mark stood up and kept firing with his other hand. He and his colleagues fought hard to save the lives of more than 25 Americans who were airlifted to safety once the fighting at the Annex ended.

As per Wiki sources, Mark was born in 1965 in Colorado, United States. He is 57 years of age and he celebrates his birthday on the 18th of December every year.
Mark was raised in southeastern Colorado by his American parents. His grandfather, Arthur Shoup immigrated to the United States from Russia in 1910. Arthur, a German served in World War II as a tank commander.
Arthur even owned a 5,000-acre farm where Mark used to learn shooting and hunting. Mark and his brother used to shoot prairie dogs. He also used to break horses for his grandfather.

Mark decided to leave the Fowler Police Department and began his own business in private investigations. In 2004, he did contract security work in Iraq. There, he served for Triple Conopy, offering Personal Security Details for Department of State personnel in Baquba, Iraq.
